Functional Garage Storage & Workspace Upgrade

These Bloomington Minnesota homeowners already loved their place, but they needed more room for storage and a dedicated hobby workspace. Their attached two-car garage had potential and just needed a smart upgrade to make it more functional, comfortable, and better aligned with the home’s original design.

Our team at Jacobson Construction began by removing the old garage roof trusses and raising the roofline. This opened up enough space to create a usable attic area, which we fully insulated and finished with new plywood walls and flooring. With new pull-down attic stairs, the homeowners now have safe, convenient, year-round storage that disappears seamlessly into the ceiling when not in use.

Inside, the 20′ x 25′ garage got a full refresh. We insulated, sheet-rocked, and painted the space to make it comfortable in all seasons. Since woodworking was high on the wish list, we added extra outlets to handle equipment and tools. The existing concrete floor was upgraded with a durable epoxy coating, giving the garage a clean, professional look.

For heating and cooling, because Minnesota weather doesn’t mess around, we installed a mini-split system. It keeps the garage warm in the winter, cool in the summer, and easy to adjust. Lighting was another major focus. Let’s just say, it’s bright. Really bright. On a sunny Bloomington morning, it’s hard to tell whether you’re inside or outside and that’s exactly what the homeowners wanted.

Outside, we tied everything together by utilizing the existing siding on the garage walls and adding complementary siding under the new roofline that enhanced the overall curb appeal of the garage. With brand-new shingles on top, the finished garage blends perfectly with the home and looks like it was always meant to be there.

The end result?

A transformed garage that’s clean, functional, comfortable, and ready for woodworking projects, organized storage, and plenty of Minnesota winters. Exactly what the homeowners were hoping for, and built to last.
